Sports and Remedial Massage

As sporting standards continue to improve the intensity of training methods increases accordingly. The body needs to rest to enable it to recover from the fatigue which results from hard training, and to enable it to develop the resilience necessary to continue training. Insufficient rest results in muscle pain, joint pain, tendon inflammation and bursa inflammation.   Other signs of over training may include restlessness and difficulty in sleeping.  There will also be an increased risk of injury. If minor aches and pains are overlooked whilst training sessions continue the chances of injury will be increased.

With sports massage the therapist can remove the accumulation of general aches and pains which would normally lead to more serious problems. Using general sports massage techniques the body will be examined, problem areas identified and treated very accurately, therefore increase the quality and quantity of training safely. This will ultimately achieve an improved level of performance. During treatment consideration will be given to the causes of injury in terms of postural and occupational stress as well as sport, and discuss how they may be prevented. Treatments are given to greatly improve the recovery of injuries such as sprains, strains, stiff neck, frozen shoulder, sciatic pain and golfers elbow. Massage can be used for general relaxation as well as being directed into local problems areas.

NB Sports and Remedial Massage can help everyone - not just sporty people! It can help office workers, young mums, labourers and the elderly!

Aroma Massage

Using Katseye Blends for a wide range of common complaints and ailments to promote the health and well being of an individual.  Essential oils have been used in perfumery and healing for many thousands of years, even before the ancient Egyptian times. Many oils have proven antiseptic properties and can be used as first aid and as an ongoing treatment for cuts, burns, insect bites and bruises. Some other oils are anti-inflammatory, anti-bactericidal, antibiotic, etc. Oils with anti-fungal properties can be used in such conditions as athlete’s foot and other fungal infections. Some can be used as an aid in the overall management of more serious conditions, such as Candida albicans, arthritis and rheumatism. In addition, since the oils work through the brain to act on emotions, they are very useful too not only for stress relief, but in cases of anxiety, overwork, stage fright, etc.

Hopi Ear Candles

The Legend ~ The magic of fire has fascinated people from the very beginning of time and control of this element gave light and warmth.

Earcandles evoke a similar fascination and have been used by many cultures as an effective natural therapy since ancient times. Historical roots can be found among the peoples of the Siberian prairies, Asia and the native North and South American Indians. Ancient rock paintings show the use of Earcandles at initiation rituals and medicinal ceremonies. The Hopi, the oldest Pueblo people with great medicinal knowledge and a high degree of spirituality, brought this knowledge to Europe with the professional involvement of BIOSUN. Since 1985 we have been researching the use of Earcandles and re-establishing their popularity. Increasing numbers of people in our culture have enjoyed and benefited from the pleasant effects of this age-old ceremony.

How They Work

Earcandles have a purely physical function. A light suction action (chimney effect) and the movement of the flame create a vibration of air in the Earcandle, generating a massage-like effect on the eardrum.  This induces a pleasant feeling of warmth and a balance of pressure in the ears, forehead and sinuses. It is soothing and helpful for earache and headache, ear noise, stress and nervousness. These benefits have been well known through 19 years of experience and confirmed by thousands of doctors worldwide.

This physical effect is often described directly after the treatment as a soothing, pressure and pain relieving sensation, mainly in the ear and head area. Treatment may also spontaneously cause freer nasal breathing and an improved sense of smell, even when the nose was blocked before treatment. Furthermore, the whole ceremony brings a wonderful relaxation, a deep sense of security and a feeling of happiness, which is seldom experienced.

YinYang Essential Oil Earcandles and Fragrances ~ “Harmony of Body, Soul and Spirit”

For the first time, sophisticated research has made it possible to combine the advantages of the Earcandle with traditional aromatherapy.

All aromas are prepared in accordance with the ancient Chinese YIN and YANG philosophy. Unique, new scent combinations have been created, incorporating the balance of both male and female elements. BIOSUN essential oils are of exquisite quality, pure, natural and without additive.  They are supplied in small 10ml bottles.

The YinYang essential oil Earcandles are available in the same fragrances as the essential oils, offering the combination of fragrance and Earcandle.

McTimoney Chiropractic

Painful symptoms are a warning which should not be ignored

What is McTimoney Chiropractic and how does it work?

McTimoney Chiropractic is a straight forward method of adjusting the joints of the body in order to relieve pain and restore movement. The aim of chiropractic is to maintain the correct alignment of your spine thus ensuring that your body’s nerve supply works efficiently. Your spinal column is made up of 24 moveable vertebrae, the sacrum and the coccyx. This column also houses the spinal column through which nerve information is transmitted through the rest of your body.

Whilst the spinal column maintains correct alignment, nerve information is passed accurately. However, if any part of your spinal column becomes misaligned then a nerve may become impinged, compressed or stretched, distorting the information that passes along it. This can lead to pain, discomfort, or restricted mobility. A misalignment of the vertebrae or bones can occur for many reasons; some of the most common are sporting/car accidents, incorrect lifting, childbirth, falls, stress and poor posture.

McTimoney Chiropractic technique is a gentle, effective, whole body method devised by John McTimoney who founded his college in 1972. We use only our hands to make adjustments to the joints of your spine and other extremities. These adjustments improve mobility, relieve pain and allow your body’s own healing processes to improve your health.

Can McTimoney Chiropractic treatment help you?

The gentle nature of the McTimoney Chiropractic technique makes it especially suitable for all ages including small babies, pregnant women and the elderly. The following conditions often benefit from treatment:

McTimoney Chiropractic is also a preventative therapy - Regular treatments at least twice a year help to keep your body in good working order.

What does the treatment involve?

The initial consultation takes up to 1 hour. It involves taking a full case history, an explanation of the McTimoney Chiropractic treatment, and then the Chiropractor using their hands will detect and correct changes, however minute, to the spine and other joints of the skeleton. Advice on exercises, posture and looking after your body will be given. Subsequent treatments take up to 45 minutes, as the whole body is assessed at each treatment. The Chiropractor will liaise and refer back to your GP if necessary.

Are there any after effects?

The effects of the treatment vary. It is common to feel tired after the treatment. People usually feel more mobile and have less pain after treatment, but some feel sore for a day or two, ask your Chiropractor if you have any concerns.

How many treatments will I need?

This will depend on the individual relating to their age, general health and the length of time they have had the problem. You will receive one treatment a week. Usually there is a marked improvement to the problem after three or four treatments.
